Finally I came
to the UK after preparing for nearly half a year.I was very
nervous when I left Taiwan for Scotland, because it was the
first time for me to go abroad by myself. On 18th August,2000,
I landed in Edinburgh. I was filled with joy when I was coming
from Edinburgh to St. Andrews, and I saw many farms, beautiful
houses, hourses, cows, sheep, and there were endless views.
It was a view that I have never seen in Taiwan.
As to the food, I think it is very different from Taiwan.
A lot of food here is cold, for example sandwich, salad and
bread. On the other hand, the British like fish and chips
very mush. If you like cheesse, butter and pasta, you can
eat extravagantly in the UK, because there are a lot of different
kinds of cheese and pastas. If you don't like the food here,
it's ok. you can also go to the supermarket to buy some Chinese
food and then prepare food by yourself. The weather in Scotland
is very changable. It often rains in the morning, but it has
sunshine in the afternoon. We see people who wear shorts,
T-shirt and also people who wear overcoats in the street.
Generally speaking, the weather is cold, so there are heaters
in every room. Scotland is a place of vast land few people,
so every students has a single-bed room. There are ninteen
dormitories in St.Andrews very comfortably. On the other hand,
if you feel lonely, you must visit your friends from door
to door.If you are lucky, maybe your neighbours are foreigners.
It's a good opportunity to speak English.
There is a different
between the traffic rule in the UK and Taiwan. They walk on
the left side and the driver is at the right side. So at first
It's a little dangerous for me to ride a bicycle. I was confusing
the sides. The pedestrians can control the traffic signal.
As Prince Willian will come to St. Andrews University to study
next year. There are many students from many different of
the wrold chosing St. Andrews Universiity to study. Britain
has a diverse culture, most of the characteristic of a particular
school is open-minded. They let student choose their major
depend on their interests. St. Andrews is a small town out
of the city. There are few amusement to relax. But if you
still want to relasx, you can go to the pub, TV room, sport
centre or go to computer room to surf the internet. There
is a kind of traditional dance which is very fanous in Scotland.
If you like dance, you can also go to take part in the activity
which the school directs.
You can't help
feeling homesick when you go abroad to study. But if you can
be filled with joy to face your future life, I think that
it will a worth while trip here. Wish you have a wonderful
journey of studing abroad.
