Course: MA in Music
Lovely England!
Hello! Everybody! I'm so glad to write to all of you. I
am 24 years old and four months ago, I came to England alone
for doing MA course. That was my first time to go abroad and
take an airplane. Before I came here, I was worried about
everything and also my parents were worried about me. However,
the high expectation for studying music in England prevailed
over the anxiety in my mind soon. Worry could deal with nothing.
The sufficient preparation in advance was the major thing
to do. I was fortunate because the members of Taichung UKEAS
provided much useful information and advice for me. Now let
me start talking about my life in England.
During summer holidays, I took two-month English language
courses, therefore I made lots of friends from various countries
such as Japan, Korea, Italy, Spain, Germany, France and so
on. It was a special experience to talk to them and know the
different characters and culture of other nations. Sometimes
pronunciation habits of particular language caused funny events.
For example, we gave a presentation about charity shops one
time. One Japanese student of my group mentioned the shop’s
name “Banana?again and again and other students got more and
more confused. After finishing her presentation, another Japanese
student asked her, "Hum Is Banana the shop's name? We
got so embarrassed because the shop name was "Barnardos".
Before the MA course started, I seized opportunities to
visit some fantastic places by attending excursions or on
my own. No matter the traditional college buildings and punting
in Cambridge; the seaside in Broadstairs and Brighton; charming
Leeds Castle and Dover Castle; countless things to do in London,
I enjoyed all of them. As everyone knows, the price index
in England is higher than in Taiwan. For students studying
abroad, it would make us excited to find something not so
expensive but we could enjoy a lot. For me, seeing the typical
musicals in London by buying standby tickets and sitting on
the best seats made me "Super" excited!
As for my MA course so far, it gives me a busy and abundant
spiritual life. As a flute player, I have frequent opportunities
to perform it in concerts because in Canterbury, the city
where I am living in, the council often arranges various events
and the Music Department also holds concerts frequently. To
take advantage of time, I attend activities as many as possible.
It is painful to study in England without enjoyment.
Generally speaking, Canterbury is a peace but convenient
city and people here are very friendly, in particular old
people. Although some unpleasant things happened unavoidably,
as a whole, I like here. Is foreign moon rounder than Taiwan’s?
No! I like England because I can learn some new ideas of music
and think about things in different views.
At the end of the essay, let me thank to all the members
of Taichung UKEAS for giving advice and assisting me. I also
thank to all UKEAS and British Airplane give me the opportunity
to write the essay about my experience of studying in England.
It's really lovely!
